Thanks, Mike. I've found that many jump onto Twitter without first understanding the big picture or thinking through how it can quickly impact their online reputation - either positively or negatively.

Irene, thank you. I just saw your tweeter page and blog. Very helpful. You seem like a very genuine person. There are a lot of "experts" out there in an areas that's so new it's hard to believe anyone is an expert. I'm still trying to figure it out and feel like a real newbie. But you give practical advice. Thank you!!

Thanks, Adam! I've found so many jump right into tweeting before understanding the big picture and asking themselves what they hope to accomplish online. The jump first, ask questions later approach doesn't always serve us well, especially in the "everything is public and lives online forever" world.

Great post Irene. This is a fabulous and very thoughtful explanation of these concepts. You've managed to boil down many of the big first questions people ask to a simple, concise explanation.

No worries, Paul. I hear this from so many people who feel the pressure to be "interesting." An easy way to start is to follow people you're interested in and then reply and comment on their tweets. This gets the conversation started without having to worry about coming up with something fabulous right off the bat.

I can never think of anything interesting to post. Is there a solution to that other than getting a life? :-)

I do many interesting things (singing and performing) but the process of getting them ready for public view isn't interesting to anyone not involved (and takes away some of the magic).

Oh well, I've always been an observer when I'm not actually on stage.
