As an American in Paris, I'm looking forward to seeing your coverage of LeWeb09! This suggestion is a little late, but it would be interesting to explore how both consumers and brands/companies will keep track of all their communications as social media continues to explode, as well as go mobile. The platforms and devices used to communicate continue to fragment: multiple email accounts, social networks, chat, SMS etc. Will this continue or will there be clear winners? Will there be successful aggregators? Will all communication move to the Cloud? As Open progresses, will we ultimately end up with one ID that works seamlessly everywhere? How will people navigate through all the noise? How do you find critical pieces of information, or trends in your communications with your customers?

Disclosure: I am interested in this question, but also because I work at silentale.com, a startup which consolidates and provides a structured, searchable archive of communications across channels. (We won the People's Choice Award at LeWeb 2008.) If you'd like to testdrive our private beta, or meet up when you are in Paris, just let me know! Also happy to provide any Paris recommendations if you need them.

These are very well-thought-out questions, Napoleon! Very relevant to this event. I'm not surprised coming from a smart, tech savvy guy like you.

The Real Time Web and the Mobile Web:

First of all, congratulations on being chosen for Le Web. You totally rock Irene.

The theme for Le Web 09 is 'real time web.'

A recent Pew Research Center internet study shows that 32 percent of US access the web by mobile devices like phones or handheld devices (http://pewinternet.org/Reports/2009/12-Wireless-Internet-Use.aspx?r=1), an increase from 20 percent two years ago. Clearly, the future of the web is mobile.

This leads to my questions for Irene:
How are businesses using social media and the real time web right now with relation to mobile users? Most sites are not optimized for browsing on a mobile device.

How will they change their practices in relation to the real time web, knowing that more people will be connected via cell phone? I would like to see a list of best practices for click and mortar mobile savvy sites.

Will it be enough to just complete your Google local listing (http://www.google.com/local/add) and hope that mobile users who do a google search will find your storefront?
What about coupons for mobile users who are right outside your door? How will services like foursquare*, twitter*, facebook*, paypal* fit in to the mobile real time web? [* = Le Web 09 participant]

Just a few thoughts Irene, I may have more later. By the way, I'm already on Google Wave, but there's no one to wave to. DM me.

Napoleon
