I tried the service as well. Another note is that even if your child enters their password(s) or gives them to you, there's no alert to tell you if they just change the password(s) later -- you just stop getting data from the account(s). you'll only notice if you happen to check your settings for the child and see that SocialShield is requesting access again.

Yay for my mom! You read my blog -- and you commented on it! You are not aged at all. You are a great role model and show what is possible when one is always open to learning and trying new things.

Now, with regard to those secret identities, maybe you're trying more "new" things that I know about. Hmm...maybe we'll have to take this conversation offline. :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, June. I absolutely agree that, while there are tools which may help parents, we should not rely on them to track or teach our children.

I explained to my 18yr old that I have the right to know his Facebook password and the right to check it at anytime (as long as he lives at home). We've sat together and looked at his Facebook posts. I've explained to him why he should remove certain things.

If I'm not sure I can trust him on-line when I'm not home, I will turn off the internet to the entire house and locked the room so he can't turn it back on.

If we're not very computer savvy, then we need to learn to keep up with our kids, its the world they are growing up in. We shouldn't rely on things like SocialShield to track what our children are doing, that's our responsibility.

It's a great article Irene.
