Social Media Stats – It’s Raining Content!

Share

Click here to read more about social media stats on almostsavvy.comDoes it ever feel that there is a non-stop downpour of Facebook posts, YouTube videos, Twitter tweets, LinkedIn connections and blog posts? Do you ever feel like you’re drowning in content?

If so and you spend any amount of time online, it isn’t just your imagination. The larger our networks of contacts, the more information we see pushed in our direction every time one of our friends shares a link to a news article, their latest blog post and a funny video of a cat dressed as Lady Gaga.

How frequently is new content added online, you may ask? It can take an awful lot of leg work and number crunching to figure that out. Luckily, Gary Hayes from Personalizemedia has put together a nifty tool which easily allows us to get a snapshot overview of the flow of uploaded content. Take a closer look and you’ll see that you can customize the data you see by selecting a timeframe and type of information (social media, mobile or games).

If you’re interested in digging deeper into the source data used here, you can find all the relevant links on Gary’s blog.

I’ll keep this blog post short because I just found out that I’ve got several hundred thousand YouTube videos to catch up on and that’s going to take some serious time.

Great comment. Email overload is bad enough. Now It’s overflowing to social media. What next?

Aiee! 1300 blog posts were uploaded since I started writing this comment!

Fortunately, most of that content is pretty repetitive – everyone’s still talking about the same news events, sports figures, and internet meme. Many people even repeat stuff on Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn, so you can shelter from that downpour by unfollowing people who talk on multiple channels.

Yes, you’re right “there is a non-stop downpour” and it’s impossible to be efficient or to cover everything, but with some luck each one will do the right chooses.
Otherwise you have humor and I am lucky to click into your blog and read your posts :) .
